Server-side problems is the biggest drag for BATTALION 1944 right now, yet it's evidence for how hungry players are for this shooter. This is a great Early Access title that feels balanced and has been created with care. So much is done right that the minor things wrong hardly matter.

Numantia'sstorytelling might entertain lovers of history, but turn-based combat enthusiasts are disappointed in battles that fail to spark a desire to thwart the enemy. An indiscreet console port with clunky controls and bloated, low-quality graphics, Numantia could please genre noobs, but there are better turn-based combat titles for seasoned players to relish.

SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced the new historical strategy game Total War™: Three Kingdoms, the next major historical title in the Total War™ strategy series from Creative Assembly™, and the first to explore ancient China, will launch in Fall 2018.

The Rome II: Empire Divided DLC is the standard Total War that we all know and love. There are no huge surprises and for the most part, mechanics added do a good job at immersing you into the Third Century and a Roman Empire fallen into chaos. Banditry isn’t all that noteworthy but Cults are fun and thematic. In sum, if you can’t get enough of Total War give this one a try.

Mare Nostrvm is an excellent game with a keen sense of balance between all the mechanics at work. Skirmish and Multiplayer modes give tons of replay value to an already great game. For historical enthusiasts or naval buffs, Mare Nostrvm is one you’ll want to look into. Turn-based tactically rich naval combat offers hours of entertaining and historically informative gameplay.

Shining Pixel Studios released Oriental Empires on September 14. The action is set in ancient China, where warring factions fight for supremacy over what is to become a tremendous empire. While at first sight, Oriental Empires appears like other 4X games, with a campaign map, factions, and armies engaging in battle, there are key differences. The battles are not being decided on a tactical map anymore, but take place on the campaign map in real-time.

Oriental Empires shall surely frustrate some players, though that really boils down to his or her shortcomings, not the any of the title. You shouldn’t be upset about historical accuracy: plagues happened, bandits are terrible, and — who would have thought — peasants hate building things for their oppressive overlords because they’d rather be with their families. Sitting down and learning how to be a sovereign to the people and not just field marshal to armies will open players up to a superb experience in the genre. The foundations of other efforts in the genre may show, but ultimately, Oriental Empires builds upon them anew, just like real life.

Publisher Iceberg Interactive announces the full release of their turn-based grand strategy title Oriental Empires. The game launched, having spent a year in Steam’s Early Access program.

At gamescom 2017, Gaijin Entertainment announced that its vehicular combat MMOG War Thunder will soon add a sixth rank for Ground Forces via the upcoming New Era Update. The new rank will feature armored vehicles from the 1960’s through the 1970’s and introduce new ground combat technologies, such as composite and reactive armor.

When you play Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, just keep your head down, follow orders, and remember that you are not special; you are just a cog in the war machine and your only hope for survival is to lean on your wits, more so than to rely on your quick twitch trigger finger. Even then, you better hope your commander has a good head on their shoulders, otherwise you are in for a long day.

Engaging, although sometimes annoying and tedious. Expensive, but you get enough content to make it worthwhile. Occasionally, the difficulty dulls the desire to keep playing. Romance of the 3rd Kingdom XIII, Fame and Strategy leaves one happier having played it, and Koei Tecmo and Kou Shibusawa gracefully inspire interest in the history, culture, drama, and intrigue of the times of this title.

Dawn of War III is very a solid foundation for the future of the franchise, but it lacks fresh flavor. The expansions to this title are sure to add races, storylines, and mechanics that are simultaneously new and nostalgic, but this initial release is somewhat bare-bones.

When Order of Battle moved to free-to-play just under a year ago, Slitherine and The Artistocrats officially started a move to offer wargames to its audience with the goal to attract new players to the challenges and complexities of deep turn-based strategy games. This undertaking sparked a new life for the franchise.

There are very few negative aspects to Blitzkrieg 3, which brings unexpected, fresh ideas to one of hardcore gaming’s most recently underserved areas. Blitzkrieg 3 isan exemplary real time strategy title, and it benefits tremendously from its developer’s fourteen years of work on the series and in the genre. Whether you've been with the genre since Dune II, or whether your experience with real-time strategy is somewhere in the nil-to-MOBA range, Blitzkrieg 3 is absolutely worth your time. Get this game and go kill you some Nazis today.

Dawn of War 3, by Relic Entertainment, is a worthy successor to the first two installments in the series. While it struggles to implement the grimdark theme of Warhammer lore visually, the title manages to reference the theme through its elite units. The heroes and doctrines a player chooses before a multiplayer battle offer the possibility to customize strategy and develop individual playstyle.

The attention to detail in the game mechanics, the developers’ efforts to maintain relevance and historical accuracy, and the rewards of mastering its intricacies set Afghanistan '11 apart as an exceptional title. However, an unusually steep learning curve, which might be hard to accept for someone who wants to casually try a turn-based strategy game, keep this release from broader appeal.

SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced the next game in the best-selling Total War: WARHAMMER trilogy. Total War: WARHAMMER II will be the second release in an ongoing partnership between globally-acclaimed developer Creative Assembly™ and Games Workshop®, creators of the world-renowned Warhammer® Fantasy Battles tabletop wargame and miniatures.

For Honor is a good game. It’s taken me a while to get here, to a place where I can calmly say nice things about it, but I’m glad I made it.  We’ll see how it progresses, but For Honor may have dug out a cool little space for itself in the multiplayer games market that we didn’t know was there.

Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach provides deep gameplay with a simple recipe: easy-to-learn combat rules and units… lots and lots of unique units. Despite minor bugs and a lack of flair – no cutscenes, little narrative, not much in the way of physics – Sanctus Reach is a solid entry in the Warhammer franchise, and an excellent turn-based tactical game to boot.

Zombie City Defense 2 does a lot of things but doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. It seems trapped between strategy and tower defense, and while a combination of the two sounds enticing, it just doesn’t have the dexterity to do both at the moment. It’s a fun concept when things make sense, but for now, it's still prone to bursts of enjoyment against waves of frustration.

The battles will make you seriously strategize and the complete European coalition teaming up against you will make you sympathize a bit with the Emperor of Elba. This is definitely a thinking (wo)man’s title - no History books required. Vive la France!

Choose your faction. Choose your heroes. Choose your troops. Conquer lands, create kingdoms, and destroy your enemies. All the lands of Callasia are yours to dominate in this original simultaneous multiplayer strategy game.
